Real Love

Hi ladies,
Last week, I went to a fascinating Redken event hosted by Kaz Amor, owner of LA's Warren Tricomi salon (they do Gabrielle Union, Kerry Washington and, um, Lauren Conrad's hair...no, I couldn't get a single drop of info out of him). Redken's launching a new line of products called "Real Control," a new line of super-moisturizing, nourishing products formulated specifically for dense, naturally dry, chemically fried, relaxed and natural hair (available in May at LA's Warren Tricomi salon, and in June, Redken salons everywhere). Calling my name, right? There's a shampoo and conditioner, Intense Renewal Mask, Thermal Resist leave-in spray for the flatiron and curling iron-addicted, and the super-rich Crema Care leave-in conditioning treatment, which Kaz strongly recommends for naturally curly, unpermed girls. I asked Kaz which ones a Dominican blowout'ed girl like me should use, and he recommended applying the Intense Renewal Mask on ONLY the bottom half of my hair, before rinsing out at spritzing on the Thermal Mist. Apparently, the extra conditioning and moisturizing exactly where most of the blowout happens is seriously beneficial to my hair. Makes sense! He also said something else very interesting. The reason my hair gets frizzy in humid weather is because it's lacking its own moisture, so my hair needs to draw it from the air. If it's already moisturized--ie, these fab products--it won't need to do that. Why did I never know that? Anyway, can't wait to try out the mask-only-on-the-bottom-half trick at my Dominican salon. Report pending.
xoxo,
Tia

I put that bit about the humidity in your comments once. Granted that was like 2 years ago, but still :) I found that out when I used to get blowouts and instead of the dude putting Aveda’s anti-humectant pomade on my hair, he loaded it up with Aveda’s HUMECTANT pomade. That’s when he told me about the moisture thing (so important for curlies and naturals, too!) and honey, my blowout lasted for-ev-er in Chicago in June! Living on the LAKEFRONT!
I’m curious, though: why would Sir Kaz tell you to put the mask on the bottom part of your hair, when you typically get your roots blown? Is it because the bottom of your hair is older and more fragile? Or because putting product near one’s roots is a one-way ticket to greasy, limp hair? Please advise!

Hope you’re enjoying the lovely weather SYB Babes (unless you live in Seattle. Sorry about the snow)

I'm all over these when they hit stores. My last vist to the Dominican's left my hair fried when they blew it strait for the first time. Can't wait to try.
Thanks again Tia!

This is the post I've been wanting!! I am 100% natural and my hair can get VERY dry. Let alone, when it hits humidity, it goes KABOOM! LOL!!

I WILL be trying these products when they are released! Thanks, as always, Tia, for the GREAT info!

Redken is AMAZING. I tried the masque last week, and my hair felt super hydrated afterward!! I really, really loved the results. Just in time for these hot Spring and Summer months!

Oohhh...this should be a good product line. As a former hairstylist I used to love Redken products--recommended many a bottle to my own clients. I love that they have a line targetted especially to curly/dry hair. So many with this hair type get so frustrated with their hair because of the frizz factor.

Thanks for the heads up!
